Los Angeles: Nonimmigrant Visa and Immigrant Green Card Lawyer
Visas and Green Cards are the two methods by which a foreign citizen can come to the United States either temporarily or to live permanently. The application process for a visa is different from the application process for a Green Card, and the waiting times for visas and Green Cards are different depending on the type of application, your current country of residence, and other factors.
Before beginning your application for a nonimmigrant visa or an immigrant Green Card, consider consulting with an experienced immigration law attorney. After learning about your circumstances and goals for coming to the United States, I can help you determine which type of visa or permanent residency application best fits your situation.

Nonimmigrant Visas for Study, Tourism, Work, Family or Business
Nonimmigrant visas are available to foreign citizens who want to come to the United States temporarily for many reasons, such as:
- To study
- To do business
- To get professional or technical training
- To marry a fiancé
- To travel as a tourist
- To invest in or start a U.S. company
- To work as an employee at a U.S. company
Visas allow a foreign citizen to come to the United States temporarily. They do not allow a foreign citizen to take up permanent residence in the United States. Visas must be renewed according to the U.S. government's timetable. With some visas, you can apply for adjustment of status from a nonimmigrant visa holder to a permanent resident Green Card holder.
Permanent Residency Applications for Green Cards
"Green card" is the common term for the documentation that gives a foreign citizen the legal right to live permanently in the United States. The most common ways to get a Green Card are through marriage to a U.S. citizen, as the child or parent of a U.S. citizen, or through a business-employee relationship. The U.S. government also holds a "Green Card lottery" every year, in which approximately 55,000 applicants are randomly selected for the opportunity to apply for permanent residency in the United States.
